8th September -
Austrey v Packington Juniors.( Friendly ).
An
earlier start saw our captain, Spencer Clark, invited to bat
first.
Harry
Bennion and Jacob Ewing opened the innings with 3 boundaries
coming in the first 4 overs. However, momentum built with the
2nd pair, Oliver Dennies and James Rushton.
5 fours
were hit in the next 4 overs with Rushton departing 3 in
succession to all parts of the ground.
The
last 4 batters all added runs to a final score of 251 which
would prove to be a good challenge for the home side of Austrey.
After
the interval, an opening spell from Clark and Pilbro kept the
home side to 3 runs for 1 wicket off the first 4 overs. This was
followed up with some solid bowling from Ewing and Rushton and
at this point , Packing ton looked set particularly with some
superb run outs from Harry Bennion and James Rushton,(2).
The
final critical overs were bowled by Bennion, James Bryan and
Bruce Wight and again with the failing light it made for a
difficult period for the bowlers and fielders, however, it was
noticeable the standard of fielding from all of the Packington
team.
Austrey
closed their innings on 268 winning by 17 runs. A very big thank
you goes to Austrey for inviting us to their ground and in
particular to Bev Johncock for his help on the field. We look
forward to seeing them next season.
